Caretaker Federal Health Minister, Dr. Nadeem Jan, has taken decisive action against the sale and use of unregistered and prohibited traditional syringes nationwide.

The minister Dr. Nadeem Jan has issued a notice regarding the sale of such syringes and directed the initiation of a comprehensive campaign against their distribution. Additionally, a market survey is set to begin immediately.

Dr. Nadeem Jan emphasized strict measures against those involved in hoarding and trading prohibited products. He highlighted the serious health risks associated with the repeated use of traditional syringes, including the potential for hepatitis and AIDS.

To combat the prevalence of counterfeit and unregistered medicines, a coordinated strategy has been devised, with the National Task Force conducting raids across the country to curb the sale of fake drugs. A nationwide market survey is being launched in collaboration with government spokespersons.

The Federal Government, along with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan and Drug Regulatory Authority Lahore, has issued a notification prohibiting the sale, manufacture, and import of such drugs and surgical instruments. Copies of this notification have been dispatched to relevant institutions in Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Gilgit, and Muzaffarabad.

Furthermore, the federal government has ordered the collection of information regarding the import, purchase, testing, and research of 2 ml, 2.5 ml, 3 ml, and 5 ml syringes in hospitals and health centers nationwide.

During a visit to the Regional Training Institute of Health, Dr. Nadeem Jan inspected attendance records, expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of the Vice Principal, and addressed ongoing absenteeism issues. He issued clear instructions for an explanatory letter to be issued and emphasized the need for all staff to work with dedication and passion for the institution’s development.
